In 2025, Nuwan partnered with the Goethe-Institut Colombo to host Papara Klang, a public platform for conversation on Papara. The event included screenings of his documentaries on “Ha Papara Mary” and “Papara Jazz”, followed by an open discussion with musicians, scholars, and cultural stakeholders. The discussion was dynamic, sometimes heated, but always constructive. It revealed the depth of feeling around Papara — from traditionalists wary of change, to innovators excited about globalizing the genre.

After the conversation, Nuwan felt the need to define a subgenre that would allow space for experimentation while safeguarding the existing traditional form of Papara. Neo Papara emerged as the framework for his creative explorations, categorizing his experiments and art pieces as a distinct branch of the genre—one that embraces improvisation, fusion, and innovation while remaining rooted in its traditions.
